Who is a designated minority?
The SBA recognizes five groups: African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, Native American or Sub-continent Asian.

What narrative do I prepare?
Designated minorities are considered socially disadvantaged, so they only prepare an economic disadvantage narrative built on: Education, Career Experience, and Business History.

Other “non-designated” minorities must complete both the social and economic narratives.

What information does my narrative contain?
A successful economic narrative contains incidents including your personal and professional failures, missed opportunities, overt and subtle discrimination,  harassment in the workplace, and financial hardships caused these events. Your narrative focuses on negative incidents.  Letters of support from co-workers can also lend credibility to your narrative.

How do I apply if I am a minority woman?
You must decide to apply either as a designated minority or woman business owner.  We suggest submit as a designated minority.

Normally we will gather all of your information in one call. If for some reason we do not believe you are ready to submit your narrative, we will provide you with specific instructions on how to gather the required information to add to your narrative.

Taking your words, we craft a narrative to meet the SBA preponderance of evidence. Expect your narrative back in 3-5 business days.
